Thousands of people protest against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico
On Friday, thousands of people protested against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, accusing him of autocratic tendencies and pro-Russian stance.
“The situation is crucial,” the speaker warned on the podium in Bratislava.
In Kosice, Slovakia’s second largest city, Defense Minister Robert Kalinak is accused of “submission” to Russia. Demonstrators resigned to the government.
The citizen’s initiative, Ukrainian Peace, is committed to delivering weapons to Ukraine and calls for rally.
The Bratislava government insisted on helping its neighbors, but only the goods of “Non-Letha”. These include cleaning equipment and generators.
Slovakia also helped by power when Russian bombings hit Ukrainian supplies.
After similar rally in recent weeks, FICO has accused organizers of spreading “lie” and manipulating people by claiming that the government is considering withdrawing from the EU and NATO.
President Peter Pellegrini also criticized a slogan “Slovakia is Europe!” which was used for demonstration. This is believed to suggest that the government is questioning Slovakia’s position in the EU and NATO.
The demonstrations condemned the government’s camp’s attack on artists and media during its call.
FICO, in turn, accused his opponents of wanting to overthrow the government that was legally elected in democratic elections.
