Vivaldi Browser now offers Proton VPN for free

Vivaldi Technologies announced a new partnership with Proton AG, which will integrate the free version of Proton VPN into Vivaldi’s web browser, allowing every user to quickly and easily access the Virtual Private Network (VPN).
VPNs protect users’ privacy by hiding their real IP addresses. It works like a protective tunnel that allows users to snoop their data through public networks without anyone having to spy on their data, whether it’s a casino scammer or a data-collecting behemoth like Google.

Vivaldi and Proton VPN position the partnership as a “challenge to the dominance of the big American tech giants,” according to the press release. Vivaldi CEO Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner has long been a critic of surveillance capitalist models, and long before his former browser company Opera. David Peterson, general manager of Proton VPN, further said: “Together, Proton VPN and Vivaldi set a new standard that challenges the dominance of tech giants and provides viable European alternatives that can help people regain control of digital life.” Vivaldi is a Norwegian company with Proton headquartered in Switzerland.
Vivaldi, which I used to call the best browser on the web, is already full of privacy features you won’t find elsewhere, like an integrated ad blocker, which isn’t as powerful as an add-on like Ublock, but is still enough for most users, and most importantly, in the browser. It also provides integration with privacy-oriented search engines like Brave and Launch Page (although neither defaults are). Vivaldi also has a full email client, calendar and RSS reader. The new Proton VPN integration is very consistent with Vivaldi’s all-in-one philosophy. Like other features, if you are not interested, the new Proton VPN integration will get in the way.

Proton VPN has long been in our best VPN guide, with strong security along with excellent privacy records and intestate policy. Proton VPN has been independently reviewed and maintained the Warrant Canary page for Arrest. It’s the best in a long time Free VPN products, this is the product integrated into Vivaldi. Unlike most services, the free version of Proton VPN provides full access to all the features of the regular plan. The restriction is that it only applies to a single device, with only three server locations: Japan, the Netherlands and the United States.
Vivaldi told Wired that Proton VPN integration might appear on the mobile version of the browser at some point, but for the moment, it is only available in Vivaldi’s desktop browser. Access is logged in through your Vivaldi account and you will see the option to use Proton VPN for free, as well as a way to upgrade to a paid version.
