Author: Chris Snelgrove Published
latest episode starfleet academy A 32nd century cadet studies a 24th century legend: Benjamin Sisko, captain of Deep Space Nine. While the show’s broad humor threatens to weigh it down, the episode manages to be a love letter to Cisco and the man who plays him, Avery Brooks. On a larger level, this episode is also about deep space ninethe best Star Trek show ever.
Accordingly, the program abandoned DS9 It has nearly as much velocity and ferocity as Sisco’s fastball. With everything going on (from bar fights to farting fish to glittery vomit), it’s easy to miss these cool callbacks. But we’ve got you covered: just keep reading to discover it all deep space nine You might have missed an Easter egg in this week’s episode of Starfleet Academy!
Baseball, gloves and hat

During the course of his investigation, Sam enters the Sisko Museum, filled with famous artifacts from his life. One of the first things we saw was a baseball and baseball glove, which were included in the museum because Sisko was a fan of this outdated American sport. Presumably, the ball in the museum is the same ball that was originally given to Sisko by an alien replica of fictional baseball hero Buck Boquet.
Cisco keeps the same ball in his office deep space ninehe often plays it in tense situations, like an old-school fidget. At one point, he and his crew played a disastrous baseball game against an old rival of his from Starfleet Academy, a Vulcan whose super strength meant he was always destined to win. Still, Sisco’s teams came to enjoy the camaraderie of playing baseball together, and the museum still has a collection of the hats he wore while leading his team, the Niners.
Typewriter and glasses

One of the most surprising inclusions starfleet academyThere is a typewriter in the Sisko Museum; it is a nod to Beyond the Stars, in which Sisko experienced the life of American science fiction writer Benny Russell in the 1950s. The episode portrays Russell as a black writer hampered by the racism of the time, but that didn’t stop him from writing a story about the fictional space station Deep Space Nine. The episode tells a shocking story about race and racism while provocatively suggesting that the entire show Star Trek fans are watching might have come from the mind of a forgotten 1950s writer.
It was interesting to see the typewriter (and Benny’s glasses) in the Sisko Museum, especially since the captain never seemed to submit a formal report of what Starfleet might have considered a mental breakdown. But he may have confided in Dax about Benny, who was present when another delusion nearly prevented him from opening the Herald’s Orb. The typewriter’s presence makes even more sense considering the episode revealed that the Dax symbiote is alive and well and teaching at the Academy.
Anslem

in the recent starfleet academy series, the latest incarnation of SAM in the hands of Dax Anslema book written by Jack Sisko. Upon opening the book, she interacts with an intelligent hologram of young Sisko, or maybe he (technically part of the Prophet) simply transcends time and space. But what makes this book so special? Why was SAM so surprised to find out Jack had finished the book?
exist deep space nine In the episode “Muse,” young Jack comes under the influence of Onaya, an alien creature that feeds on creativity; basically, she kills people, but only after unleashing their full potential. Under her influence, Jack began to Anslemhis first novel, which he did not finish because his father drove Ornellaia away. deep space nine It was never revealed whether Jack finished Anslem on the main timeline, but starfleet academyy confirmed that he completed the book in secret but decided not to publish it.
Messenger Orb

When Benjamin Sisko was first stationed on Deep Space Nine, he was very skeptical of the Bajoran religion, but that all changed when their divine prophets (whom he called wormhole aliens) chose him to be the Jesus of space. Afterwards, Sisko quickly learned all about Bajoran beliefs, including the idea that prophets sent down special orbs to help guide and communicate with those of their choosing. One of these is known as the Orb of the Messenger, which in a timely manner houses the Prophet who possesses Sisko’s mother and ensures his conception.
When Sisko found the orb and freed the Prophet, the powerful alien was able to expel the evil ghost within the wormhole; this brought hope to the people of Bajor and allowed the wormhole to function again. So, what we saw at the Sisko Museum starfleet academy Not just any sphere. It’s tied to the beginning of Sisko and the eventual end of the Dominion War, making it one of the coolest artifacts in the entire galaxy.
Jack Sisco returns

Jack Sisko appears in this episode starfleet academy As an adult. He’s just a hologram, but an interactive one, so he speaks SAM. The role is reprised by Cirroc Lofton, who also played Jack in “Jack.” Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Dax returns

As mentioned previously, the Dax symbiote appears in starfleet academyfeaturing a new host named Ira Dax (played by Tony Newsom). This Dax is not a vibrato; She is a Cardassian and Trill hybrid.
