Amazon’s “Buy for Me” AI will buy things from third-party websites
Amazon has begun testing another AI-driven feature called “For Me”, which allows e-commerce companies to buy for you from other websites. Specifically, from the actual website of the brand you are looking for. The experience is built into the Amazon app. When you search for items from a specific brand, you may see a portion of the results marked “Store Brand Website”, separate from the results you get from Amazon and its third-party sellers.
If you click the Buy for me button below the item in the “Single Results” section, it will be taken to the product details page within the Amazon app. The company said the page will provide relevant product information similar to the product details on Amazon’s own list. If you decide to go through the deal, Amazon will purchase items for you from the brand’s website. It uses proxy AI, a type of AI that does not require human intervention, providing your name, address, and payment details for the checkout process. Amazon says your details are encrypted and it won’t be able to see your previous and future orders from the brand’s website. You will receive a confirmation email from the brand store itself for you to purchase, but you can track your orders in the Amazon app via the My New Buy Order tab in the Orders page.
The company told us that purchases made with experimental features do not receive commissions from your purchases, but did not say whether it will be cut from sales in the future. Currently, the feature is still in Beta, and only a portion of customers on the U.S. and Amazon apps are available to a portion of customers in the U.S. Currently, the test will also use only a limited number of branded stores and products. Just a few days ago, Amazon also released an AI-driven feature called “Interests” that handles prompts in everyday languages related to your interests. For example, you can enter “Brewing Tools and Coffee Lovers’ Widgets” to get notifications about Amazon’s deals and products.
