Bear announced Anthony Rizzo Will retire as a cub and will receive honors this Saturday at Wrigley Stadium (club hosting the ray). He will also serve as ambassador for the organization. ESPN’s Jesse Rogers is one of the things that conveys the news.
Rizzo, 36, is part of some of his career different organizations, but will always be primarily known as the cub. He spent most of his career in Chicago. As the team became a regular contender in the second half of the past decade, his core work is his core work. The highlight was in 2016, when the Cubs eventually won the World Series, breaking the 108-year drought.
After that year, people talked about the potential dynasty on the north side of Chicago, the young core of Rizzo, Kris Bryant,,,,, Javier Baez,,,,, Willson Contreras and Jorge Soller It is controllable, affordable, and powerful. However, as the Cubs’ core continues to stagnate, the front desk finally determined that changes needed. Rizzo’s game against the Yankees continued to be good and played a key leadership role, all of which convinced the team to re-sign his two-year contract and chose the third season option.
Rizzo went on to spend the final three full seasons of his career in the Bronx, hitting well in 2022 before slipping to about average in 2023 and struggle through injuries in 2024. His time in New York wasn’t nearly as productive, but he logged an overall .234/.326/.409 line as a Yankee and popped 32 home runs in his first full season in pinstripes.
All in all, Rizzo’s outstanding career will end his life’s .261/.361/.467 batting line. He hit 303 home runs in the Grand Slam, scoring 922, 965 cards, and even swinging 72 bases. Rizzo is one of only 164 players in Major League Baseball history, able to reach 300 professional home runs. His 338 doubles ranked 352nd, with Brady Anderson,,,,, Matt Williams,,,,, Robin Ventura and the above Kemp.
Rizzo also won 241 playoff appearances, and his .225/.328/.397 line doesn’t match his regular season excellence, but is biased by his cruel performance in the 2015 playoffs. Starting with the NLCS breakthrough in 2016, Rizzo hit .260/.367/.455 in the last 180 laps of the playoffs.
Through an early career extension with the Cubs, and a free agent deal re-signed with the Yankees in the 2021-22 offseason, Rizzo earned over 127mm in parts of 14 seasons. Fangraphs valued his career victory with a 35.9 victory, while baseball quotes were even more bullish in the 40.4 War. Rizzo is unlikely to be the boundary of Cooperstown, but he will be remembered as the cornerstone of the iconic era of the Cubs franchise and is a solid veteran pickup who helped drive some of the competitive Yankees clubs.
