RCS 3.0 Officially unveiled by GSMA, an association representing mobile network operators. On the surface, this is pretty boring news. However, this is special, as it will eventually fix RCS messaging between Android and iOS users.
when Apple adds RCS support For iOS 18, the company used an older version of the protocol. This causes unencrypted chat messages between iPhone and Android users. Fortunately, Apple has agreed to update to the latest RCS protocol, thus permanently resolving the issue.
“End-to-end encryption is a powerful privacy and security technology that Imagesage has supported since its inception, and now we are excited to help lead cross-industry efforts to bring end-to-end encryption into the RCS common profile published by GSMA,” Apple spokesperson Tell The Verge. “We will add support for end-to-end encrypted RCS messages to iOS, iPados, macos and WatchOS in future software updates.”
iOS 18.3.2 is here. Everything new.
Google also confirmed that this will support the new standard, which is the first time Apple and Google have done so at the same time. Google said that incorporating it into Android will work as soon as possible.
Mixable light speed
The good news doesn’t stop there. RCS 3.0 also includes a few other useful privacy features. It will include end-to-end encryption (E2EE) based on the Message Layer Security (MLS) protocol. All of these big, fancy words mean text messages, images, and other file types will be encrypted before being sent over the network, and can only be encrypted by the device receiving the message. In short, no one will see what you send except the person who receives the message.
Of course, you need to use the appropriate messaging application. In this case, it will be Apple Imagessage and Google Messages. Third-party texting apps usually don’t support RCS at all now, although it may change one day.
RCS 3.0 Also included Improvements to make it easier for people to interact with businesses and chatbots, which is one in businesses and businesses and All scammers use AI chatbots.
As a warning, the RCS protocol has not left the store shelves. Currently, messages between Android and iOS users are still unencrypted until both companies can launch them. There is no exact date yet for this launch.
