Astronaut, Cody Bolton agrees to minor league deal

Astronaut signed right-handed Cody Bolton According to the MLB.com transaction log, a minor league contract was signed last week. He has been assigned to the team’s Florida State University. Bolton has never recorded any game action since April 23, so the Astronaut would give him a runway to build it and presumably assign him to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Bolton was released by his guardian on June 6. The 27-year-old has been released on the Triple-A injury list in the past five weeks. MLBTR learned that unfortunately, Bolton suffered injuries in a car accident in late April. A month later, when they needed a roster of 40 people to be active, the guardian finally assigned him to take the mission David Fry IL from 60 days. The injured player could not completely give up the exemption, so Bolton was later released.

The 6’2″ right side showed up for the Guardian in late April, allowing three innings in two innings. Last year, he spent some time with the Buccaneers and Mariners in 2023. Bolton has 5.79 runs in 42 major league frames. He has a stronger triple record, hitting a quarter of his opponent at the highest minor league level in four seasons, with his ERA named 3.42. His four catch fastballs and sinkers are all within 94 mph range and tilted on low-slung balls in the 80s.

Bolton has worked from the Bullpen over the past few seasons but was a starter in the Pittsburgh system early in his career. Once he returns to the game shape, he can act as a middle relief or rotate depth. Bolton has less than a year of Major League Baseball Services (MLB) services and still has a minor league option, so if he gets a 40-man roster, the Astronauts will be able to bounce between Daikin Park and Sugar Land.
