Senior Kenyan politician threatens to expose president’s old clip error sharing
To strengthen the ruling coalition ahead of Kenya’s 2027 election, the Amani National Assembly (ANC) party of major cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi recently merged with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). A post about Tiktok claimed that Mudavadi threatened to resign and expose Ruto’s alleged crimes, meaning the two leaders had fallen. The claim is wrong; the video comes from a public speech in 2020, when Mudavadi talks about the impeachment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

“How did we get stuck in the situation of impeachment in Nairobi? Let’s be honest…it’s because of impunity. Because you don’t want to follow the law. We need leaders who can know and appreciate the rules of the law,” Mudavadi said in the clip.
He added: “If we keep making mistakes and now say it’s because I’m very popular on the streets of Nairobi this week, then I can ignore the laws of this land, then I’m a guy who is planting the seeds of impotence. When you’re the governor, when you’re the governor of somewhere, it’s not personal property. It’s public office.”
He went on to stress that leaders at all levels must act in accordance with the law, regardless of their position. At the end of the clip, he noted that some leaders were afraid of telling the truth because they were afraid of social media opposition.
