Bachelorette Katie Thurston stays positive amid cancer battle

Katie Thurston As she continues her battle with stage 4 breast cancer, she’s “optimistic” about the next steps in her health fight.
talking Well! information Thursday, October 9th bachelorette “All things considered, she’s doing a great job,” the 34-year-old alum said.
She added, “I actually had my six-month scan on Monday, so I’m feeling pretty optimistic about that.”
Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2025 after a lump was discovered in November 2024. In March, the cancer spread to her liver and Thurston was in stage four.
Since then, Thurston has been battling the disease and told Well! information During her journey, she was surrounded by those she loved – especially her husband Jeff Arcuri – Be appreciated.
“You can’t face cancer alone,” she told the outlet. “You really have to rely on your friends and family. And to have someone who is your partner and is there for you every step of the way? That means everything.”
Thurston also revealed that her diagnosis has caused her to handle everyday situations differently than she used to.
“I realized you never know what someone is going through,” she continued. “I find I’m more patient with strangers. If someone drives too slow or is grumpy, you don’t know what they’ve been through in their own life. So I feel like I’m kinder.”

The former reality star cried on Instagram on Sept. 30, becoming emotional as she told fans how she was coping after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Tomorrow is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and if I was being serious I would be absolutely devastated,” Thurston said in a video posted on her Instagram Stories. “I don’t even know what I’m talking about, guys. I’m just trying to be honest. I know sometimes I look positive, but it’s hard to stay positive.”
She added, “I’m really looking forward to, like, the end of the year being my last push and then everything will work out,” she said in the video. “You know, the treatment was working, everything was fine. Instead, it’s like I hurt my liver, I cut back on the medication, I delayed the surgery, and I haven’t even talked about it yet.”
Thurston previously shared via an Instagram post on September 19 that she was planning to undergo a double mastectomy “in November.”
In April 2025, Thurston also publicly stated that after her diagnosis, she had “moments” where she felt like she was going to die.
“I think it comes from reading about other people’s experiences. Like everybody else, there’s a lot that’s unknown. People just haven’t been through cancer,” Thurstow said during an April 17 appearance on the “Uncomfortable Conversations” video series.
