Bagspy: Deep diving into Jon Rahm’s golf bag

Of all the bags of professional golf, I know, understand and a little hand belongs to Jon Rahm. Back in 2021, when I started my time with Callaway Golf, one of my hard tasks was creating content and stories around Rahm, when he was also his first year at Callaway. My boss Jeff Neubarth told me at the time: “Get to know him, go out and spend time because he is a big part of your work”
After so many hours of range, walking practice, text, phone calls and content shooting, my knowledge of Jon and his games is the master class. Still far from Caddy Adam Hayes or coach Dave Phillips…but damn good. I even slid a club in his bag before the 2023 Ryder Cup and was still there today.
No doubt he is my favorite player and I will give you a Nuggets who is better than he is a golfer. The simplest words to describe him are modest, thoughtful and glorious. I learned a lot from this guy, and I’ve been on his track for over 5 years and he’s special. I’m not talking about that.
The basics of Jon’s schoolbag:
- Keep it simple: JR tries to eliminate as many variables as possible. That’s why you don’t see a lot of changes to the bag.
- Speed of forgiveness: Ram will always accept spine and forgiveness in speed. always. “If I can’t control it, who cares how far it goes.” As we’ll see throughout the bag, Rahmbo has a ton of lofts with others relative to other lofts. With his bowed left wrist and shaft thin, this is essential for launch/rotation in general, but he goes a step further in the attic to ensure that the rotation remains at the high end of the spectrum at all times. Xander Schauffle adopted a similar strategy. Both of Kellen Watson’s players know what they’re doing lol.
- He wants ownership: Rahmbo is always a player who blames himself on the club. One of the complex tasks of tour Kellen Watson is to make sure Rahm doesn’t “make something work.” Since Rahm is talented and can shoot 65 with a broom, Kellen must pay close attention to Jon’s way of swaying and how he reacts to the gears. At this point, he cooked it up and if not, Karen could see it from a mile away.
- No compromise: If there is no obvious benefit, it is not in the bag. period. The end of the story. The keyword “significant”. A little here or there won’t move the needle, especially in the case of the driver.
*Jon usually brings 15 clubs to each event. Swap only between 5 wood and utility tools
ball: Callaway Chrome Tour X

notes: Spin rotation. Jon always wants to make a surplus in the spin. Tour X Ball has been huge for him over the years, especially in short iron and wedges, and being able to hit speed while maintaining the spin was one of the main reasons he switched to this ball.

notes: Believe it or not, your Callaway Elyte TD driver has been a favorite of Ram so far. Why? It was mainly forgiveness, but to take a step further, that was the lack of a big miss, which made him speed up. Not that he doesn’t love Em, but he specifically mentioned to me that it’s fast, tolerant, and he trusts it. Another interesting thing here is the shaft switch he made with Tour Rep Kellen Watson in late 2023. This has been transferred from his Aldila Tour Green 75TX for years (since college) to upgrade his already elite driver game. The perfect stock number with the driver’s Rahmbo is 11-12 launch/2300-2500rpm spin/178-184 mph ball speed.

Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond Custom Drive
The performance of the tour’s Elyte Triple Diamond model is designed for players who want smaller footprints, lower spins and launches, and is a neutral bias in fading out of the T-shirts. This model has a glossy carbon crown and a clean top line with interchangeable front and rear weights that allow players to choose between greater stability (weight weight) or lower spin (weight forward). Composite Future Elyte three-drill drivers feature a brand new thermally covered carbon crown. This aerospace-grade carbon fiber allows fast head speed while optimizing launch and rotation. AI Optimal Distance, Control and Launching Advances in Our State-of-the-art AI Faces, the new AI10X Face has 10 times more control points than AI Smart Face™. Designed to generate extremely fast ball speeds, tight dispersion and optimized face launches.

notes: Fairway Woods hasn’t changed since 2021. The TripleDiamond T platform is designed specifically for Rahm and Tony Finau and Jonathan Byrd, and no one else is in the bag. The most striking feature of the “T” is the inclination angle in the only design, which allows the Rahm to hit and knock it down through the turf (almost like a wedge). He wanted a profile that lived in the mid-sized rotation range that wouldn’t tilt too far from right hand to left shot, which is perfect for the year. Ai-Smoke is his carbon copy of the OG Epic Speed Td T in 2021. Rogueand Paradym made some tweaks to the design weight, but this AI-Smoke is set as a team favorite. I can’t see these things coming out soon. They didn’t make the Elyte version. The graphite design biaxial about both is essentially something he likes to feel and rotate. The profile is completely different from Ventus Black, but remember that his attack angle is steeper on his fairway, resulting in different needs wise. DI works well on fairways and can be offered to a large number of players due to its softer features and stiff tips from the handle to the middle. This allows the ball to rotate, which is ideal for 3 or 5 wood.

notes: We like to call it “chicken stick” is very close to the 5 wood (not carried) to his 5 wood and found its own path while the course runs quickly. This is his only exchange bag. The Apex UT in the bag has been around for over 10 years (launched in 2014) and has been a cult classic ever since. In the test, Jon hit a lot of options, but ignored it after hitting this option, which is instant love. Now the trick is to find the backup.

Johnny Wunder
notes: Starting from day 1, the theme of minimal variables continued, and the TCB iron has not changed. Rahm usually makes a cut with each club once, and the TCB’s offset keeps his starting line at the center or left. Regarding “I Slide into the Bag Club,” Apex Pro 4-Iron entered during the 2023 content shooting. If you watch the video below, you will find that everything will disappear.

Watch 3:53-4:20…that happened. Literally. After the filming, they tried to take it from him, assuming it would never be in the bag, and he grabbed it and said, “This is with me.” The club has been fixed in the bag ever since.

notes: In addition to LW, the wedge has also remained unchanged in Callaway since Day 1. Jon likes 52/56 because of his shorter heels and shorter toe profiles, and he has been at Opus t Grind since the opening in 2023, and this is the new original prototype since January this year. Jon mentioned to me that the new LW added lead tape to the desired swing weight, the new SP had a quick feel on the ground and seemed to lower with more rotation.

notes: The fast Nuggets are holding the Nuggets in the bag since the end of 2023 when they exchanged from Ai-One Rossie. The blue finish will be sunken when the push rod puts it in the attic/Lie Machine. Despite its subtlety, Jon will notice them, which will affect his goals. As a player who hates alignment help, his silver OG Rossie S is a blank canvas that keeps him focused only on the red lines on the ball. He also won both of his majors with that putter, so there is another reason.
