Bears promote Owen Caissie

Bear Program Promotes Top Prospects Owen CaissieAs reported by ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jesse Rogers. The young outfielder is already on 40 people, he will probably accept Miguel AmayaPosition in the active lineup. Amaya sprained his ankle tonight and will need an IL position. As for Caissie, Ontario natives are expected to make their debut tomorrow against the Blue Jays’ Major League Baseball (MLB).
Padres choose Caissie in the second round of the 2020 draft Yu Darvish Go to San Diego. Since then, he has been one of the team’s most promising prospects in Chicago’s minor league system. Baseball America ranked him 21st in 2021, eighth in 2022, 13th in 2023, fifth in 2024, and second in 2025. He also ranked in the top 100 overall prospects for the BA in each of the last three years. Not every source is high for Caissie entering the 2025 campaign. Fangraphs ranked him at No. 65 in 2024, while Keith Law of track and field never put Caissie in his top 100 prospects. However, no one doubts Caissie’s enormous primitive power – the question is whether he can turn this power into the highest level of success.
The issue is bigger than ever after Caissie cuts .278/.375/.472 with 0.195 isolated force and 115 WRC+. But the left-handed Slugger took a huge step this year, with 22 home runs and 50 extra hits in 92 games for the Iowa Cubs. His .281 ISO and 145 WRC+ are fifth among qualified batsmen in the International League. His strikeout rate is still high – which is always and may always be a problem – but the 28.0% K-Rate is certainly not fatal, at least if he keeps walking and smashing home runs.
This is not to say that Caissie is the Cubs’ lineup, which is definitely a shock in the middle. He is still just a 23-year-old prospect who has to prove that his swing and lapses are not against MLB pitching, especially left-handed MLB pitching. Still, it’s exciting that he’s joining the team for the game as they want to stick with the NL’s top wildcards and try to challenge the seemingly unstoppable NL Central Crown. Any offensive improvement he can offer will be greatly appreciated. The Cubs ranked one of the league’s best offensive teams in the season, but they’ve been struggling lately, earning just 34 runs in 11 games since the trade deadline.
That being said, it’s worth mentioning that Caissie is suitable for Chicago’s roster. He can play corner outfield or DH, cubs with Kyle Tucker,,,,, Ian Happand Seiya Suzuki. Tucker is left-handed like Caissie, while Happ is a rev, splitting against the right shot stronger. The Suzuki Bat is right-handed, but he has no trouble with pitching in the same step. Ultimately, with clichés, it’s the manager’s best question Craig Counsell have. He could take advantage of Caissie’s presence in the roster to give his veterans more rest, especially Tucker’s downturn. It works well as long as Caissie hits it. On the other hand, this means that young people are immediately under great pressure. The Cubs are as competitive as they have been for a few years, and they can’t afford to take the rep from Tucker, Suzuki, if Caissie doesn’t produce it.
The roster fit isn’t perfect, but the Cubs’ 40-man roster only has four healthy minor league players to choose from, and it’s hard to say Caissie didn’t get this opportunity in the top prospects Kevin Alcántara and Moisés Ballesterosor fewer people Ben Cowles.
