Israeli police say one was killed in a knife attack at Haifa bus station

An Israeli man was killed and four others were injured, and police said it was a terrifying stabbing attack in Haifa, northern Israel.

Police said an Israeli Druz man attacked civilians with a knife after getting off at Hamifrac Central Station. He was shot dead by security guards.

The victim who died was appointed 70-year-old Hassan Dahamsha, mainly the Arab town of Kafr Kanna. The medical staff said three of the injured – a 15-year-old boy, a man in his 30s and a woman – were in good condition.

Police said the attackers came from Shfaram, a largely Arab town, who recently returned from abroad with no designated motive.

Israeli Druze leaders condemned rare attacks by members of their community.

Druze is a racial and religious group whose belief is a branch of Shia Islam. Israel and the occupied Golan Heights are inhabited by about 150,000 people, accounting for about 1.5% of the population.

Witnesses and security officials said the perpetrators of the attackers Monday morning took a bus in Shfaram to Haifa, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) east of the city.

“A bus arrived, someone got off with a knife and shouted ‘Ahhhh Akbar’ [‘God is greatest’ in Arabic]A woman told The Harrez and began stabbing people.

A security official was cited as saying that the assailant stabbed three people waiting at the station and then went to a security checkpoint where he stabbed an elderly man and was shot dead by the guards.

A police spokesman said the attackers had been abroad for the past few months and returned to Israel in February.

Israeli media named him Yitro Shaheen, 20, and reported that he has German citizenship and lives in Germany.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “My wife Sara and I have deepest condolences to the family of the man who was murdered in the shocking terrorist attack in Haifa.

“We will continue to fight those who are trying to murder us and we will defeat them.”

Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Israeli Druze community, also condemned the attack. But he added: “It is important to wait for the security forces to conduct a thorough investigation and sufficient clarification of the facts before passing judgment.”

Hamad Amar, a Druze MP for the right-wing Isreal Bitterney Party, insisted that the attack “does not reflect the true spirit of the Israeli Druze community, a formal partner in defending the country and its values.”

Shfaram’s mayor Nahid Khazem also said residents of the town were shocked by the “despicable crime” in Haifa.

He told Harletz: “His extended family said he was mentally unstable, but I have no confirmation.”

No armed group immediately made a request, but Hamas called the attack a “hero” and had a “natural response” to the so-called Israeli crimes against the Palestinians.

Amid the deadlock between Hamas and Israel, it was a six-week-old Gaza ceasefire, which was because of the advancement.

Israel blocked aid into Gaza, which ended Saturday night after Hamas rejected what Netanyahu’s office said of a U.S. proposal to extend to phase one.

Hamas accused Israel of violating the deal and said the second phase should be carried out as agreed.
