Brianna Do, Anna Huang is eligible for the AIG Women’s Open

Brianna Do of the United States and Anna Huang of Canada were among the 17 players who won the attraction in this week’s AIG Women’s Open through Monday’s 18-hole qualifier.

The AIG Women’s Open kicks off on Thursday at Royal Porthcawl in Wales.

Huang, the youngest player on the Women’s European Tour, held a 67-shot low-67 match at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club on Monday at the age of 16. Following closely behind are Anna Foster of Ireland and Arpichaya Yubol of Thailand, under the age of 3.

“I’m happy with my score,” said Huang, who ranked 521st in the Rolex Women’s Ranking. “I don’t play link golf so I’m used to a few practice rounds, but I think I’ve done a great job. I’m playing at the U.S. Open this year, so that’s going to be my second major champion. I’ve learned a lot from that week and it would be helpful to bring more patience into this week.”

Do 35, tied for eighth place under 1 year old. The 2011 Women’s Amateur Link Champion will play in her first Women’s Open since 2016. Ranked 351st, she will be ranked 23rd in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June, and won the T59 at the Evian Championship three weeks ago.

“I was Evian for the first time a few years ago, but I didn’t get in, so I came to Scotland and played a lot of golf,” Do said. “I’ve played old courses, Prestwick, Elie, so I’ve had a lot of fun and it’s amazing. I learned a lot there, but not in the tournament sense.”

Among the five Americans in the qualifying round are 2017 main champion and four-time Solheim Cup player Danielle Kang, who shot 73.

“Not even at all,” she said. “I met incredibly great people here. I had to play with a bunch of members in Porthcawl and I met everyone at Pyle and Kenfig. It was so nice.”

Hira Haveed (69) in Australia and Momoko Kobori (70) in New Zealand, who were Pepperdine teammates from 2017-19, are both eligible. All 17 qualifiers at the 144 Jiajun Stadium this week ended with par.
