A Closed Southpaw Brady Basso According to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, it is temporarily due to shoulder strain. Currently, there is no timeline for his return to the throwing schedule.
While Basso can’t guarantee a seat in the Opening Day lineup (he still has a pair of minor league options, his solid rookie performance in 2024 gives him the ability to really compete to break camp. Basso won a 16-round draft pick in 2019, last season, with his first 22 1/3 of his Major League Baseball career and recorded a 4.03 running average with a strikeout rate of 20.4%, a 5.4% walk rate and a 42% ground rate. That’s at 4.55 ERA, 27.5 k% and 6.3 bb% heels, 93 innings (18 games, four relief appearances).

In the first few weeks of the camp, Basso only strengthened his case. Despite Gene, Bido and Estes being hit hard and Harris struggled with his orders, Basso wasted 4 1/3 of the scoreless and hitless innings. He allowed only one of 14 opponents to arrive (walking) and snatched 4 batsmen. In a small sample of spring, things may be rushing to change, but so far he has been hardly able to do more for the opportunity he has gained.
A will have more information about his recovery schedule in the coming days and weeks, but the closure at this time effectively left him out of the Opening Day lineup. If there is any real pressure, Basso may be the 60-day IL candidate for the candidate who needs a 40-person roster next time, but that will depend on the upcoming prognosis and recovery schedule.
