Chadwick Boseman’s widow reveals actor’s creative philosophy

Chadwick Boseman’s widow shared the foundation of the actor’s creative success at a Walk of Fame ceremony honoring her late husband in Hollywood on Thursday.
Simone Ledward Boseman, who privately married him before his death on August 28, 2020, described the “42” and “Avengers” star for the first time in a video from the event as “a spiritual mentor who was strengthened by his family and close friends.”
“Chad has taught all of us so much,” she said, speaking after “Mom Rainey’s Black Bottom” co-star Viola Davis and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler spoke. “He had such a big heart that he could give a piece of himself to everyone but still have so much to share with the world.”
She said she still sees synchronicities frequently that can’t be called random — his star is No. 2828 on the Walk of Fame, for example — and is reminded in those moments that her husband “is still teaching.”
“You lived in honor, you walked in truth,” Ledward Boseman said. “You were beautiful and smart, you were brave and kind. We love you, we miss you, and we thank you.”
Next, she read her husband’s own words, the “Creative Job Description.”

“Write the vision and make it simple,” she recites. “Write this word in your journal and shut it up in your bolted drawer until the appointed time.
“Let the ideas and visions God has given you fester within you. Let the words He has placed within you bubble up. Say them not to others until God’s appointed time.
“The secrecy of the vision is the second stone laid in the construction process. It is the bulwark of the project, because the word spoken too soon is a bulldozer and a stumbling block in people’s ears.
“Forget the self that entered the process and become a new creature through the work.”
At the star’s unveiling, she invited the actor’s brothers Kevin and Derek Boseman to join her on the red carpet, where Davis and director Ryan Coogler greeted them.
Stars—of the movie variety, of course—is located at 6904 Hollywood Blvd., in front of the Hollywood Experience.
