I think it must be hell to be a high school student today: self-esteem exhaustion on social media, pressure of gender identity, pretending to like Taylor Swift. Then, I remember the late 80s, when my peers and I survived our own preppies vs. Stoners Teenage Inferno. At least I’m not a cool kid, nor the danger of being beaten by a mean serial killer. That was the satirical black comics premise in 1989 Heatherswhich discomforts John Hughes’ bittersweet adult formula. The cult movie is adapted into a clever high-energy 2014 musical that returns to the New World stage, looks super beautiful and hits the difference. Heath Musical Has become a big IP: the IP that bridges Gens X and Z in mutual disgust (yes, desire): those gorgeous color-coordinating goddesses who rule the corridor.

Are you familiar with Heathers, right? (Two letters lost, it’s hatred.) Due to the preface to the despicable girls, they are Heather McNamara (Elizabeth Tenther), a secretly unsafe cheerleader. Heather Duke (Olivia Hardy) quietly boiling beta awaits her chance. and Heather Chandler (McKenzie Kurtz), a joyful sadist and “mythical bitch” every hero killer Verona Courtney. Veronica is good at being kind, eager to graduate and escape from college. Although wise, even she is not immune to the charm of popularity. In the first ten minutes, Veronica agreed to make a makeover (Heathers wanted to use her fake skills) and became the fourth round. (In the movie, Winona Ryder’s Veronica is already a Triad’s doubtful satellite.)

Veronica is fascinated and opens when she witnesses Sardonic Baudelaie quotes JD (Casey Likes) standing up and defeating homophobia kurt (Cade Ostermeyer) and Ramm (Xavier McKinnon). Later, at a party, Veronica refuses to play a cruel prank on the overweight victory Martha (Erin Morton) and drunken bed, her fate is sealed. JD is a social therapy manipulator who is traumatized by a dead mother and a psychological daddy, allowing Veronica to drive herself away from these evil queens in the easiest way: Slide Heather Chandler Drano into a coffee cup. Sooner than you said, “Fuck me gently with a chainsaw,” Veronica paradoxically accepts her role on her shoulders as Mrs. JD lovet.

Musicals have developed in the nineteen years since Broadway’s escape, as are target audiences. A slightly remodeled version that opened in London in 2018, sold out and moved to the West End, and visited the UK, current works (such as the incarnation of New York and London, directed by Andy Fickman) have been extended to January. The crowd that has been previewed (at least those I have attended) are treating Heathers Just like long-term crushing. It’s really not surprising. With several actor albums, Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe’s Bright and Flexible Retro Pop Score inspired countless Tiktok reenactments. There is a built-in fanatic in the material evil,,,,, Dear Evan Hansen and Hair glue. The ridiculous stack of actors even include Hair glue OBC: The adorable Kerry Butler, a media-hungry school counselor, plagued Westberg High School on the rash.

A joke about suicide? Did the football dad attend his son’s funeral? A show where students sing the elasticity of hate speech: “Freak! In the current climate, irony is not easy to get out; how is the show not cancelled? Maybe we are ready to accept that the representatives are not recognized. When Heathers entered their first entrance with a bright fire, the people around me were so happy. I thought: “You know they are villains, right? “You might think that years of social media have instilled a greater degree of fame in younger consumers – perhaps also popular consistency. I got Columbine 26 years later, and the school shootings are actually normal, and guns like JD Edgelord are impossible to take root, but is the narcissistic princess an alternative? Does everyone want to be an influencer of a million followers?”

Maybe I saw it wrong. Musicals, like movies, advocate kindness and self-acceptance – even Heathers, despite their addiction to identity, are secretly eager. Perhaps Gen Z is flexible enough to worship mean trendsetters while also knowing that it is all performed: a person can be a mean girl at the same time, while a gentle person is out of place. Kids these days: They contain numerous…Instagram filters.

What marks the reason why this movie (Daniel Waters’ script) marks the idol of Gen X is its reflexive pessimism of “the plague on your house”. We are a neutron generation, keenly aware that everything is behavior and the world does not want us. Veronica finds herself trapped between the toxic vanity of the crowd and the murderous insanity of the anarchists. She rejected both. In this sense, maybe X and Z share the Sardonic-Outsider Pov.

Beyond its sociological themes, Heathers It’s a ton of stylish, well-crafted fun with top-notch performances and top-down earworms. After the intermission, the scores became deeper and deeper, introspectively making the various characters’ moments burden their hearts. Heather McNamara sings the troubled people about survival games lifeboatMartha Kindergarten boyfriend. High octane explosion Candy Shop Let Heathers’s pillars and teasing, this is my favorite Seventeena rock ballad about nostalgia for young people slipping away. David Shields’ dazzling peachy jewellery-colored fashion and Ben Cracknell’s adrenaline pumping light make the show equivalent of his ode to JD’s 7-11 slurpee to numb the pain: neat things Heathers: It seems to be cold and icy, but by the end, there is melting and everyone is part of the club.
