A demolition company used about 500 kilograms of explosives to overturn a 120-meter boiler house and later removed a 125-meter cooling tower on Sunday in Ibbenbüren, western Germany.
A spokeswoman said the demolition was divided into two stages, the first one before noon, and the second phase was planned soon. A group of people gathered to watch the spectacular event.
About 830 residents from the surrounding area were evacuated to central accommodation for an explosion.
The site will be ready for a substation in the summer of 2026 to convert the wind power generated by the North Sea to the German grid.
About 150 explosion experts participated in the operation, and about 100 police and emergency services were monitored.
These explosives are used to put the boiler house and stove to heat the air of the explosion furnace. Before the explosives destroy the remaining 6, first cut off 4 of the 10 support. Water is used to reduce dust.
By cutting 21 large gaps in the structure, with a length of 11 meters and a width of 50 cm, steel cutting cables were used to overturn the cooling tower. The structure then collapses in a controlled manner as the tension of other cables attached to the tower gradually increases.
Rubber should be disposed of on-site for recycling. Ibbenbüren varies in 2021 due to Germany’s transition to renewable energy.
