Disney just passed up its only chance to save Star Wars

Star Wars fans received the devastating news earlier this week that sequel trilogy actor Adam Driver and legendary director Steven Soderbergh were teaming up to create a Star Wars movie, but Disney ultimately turned it down. This movie is called The Hunt for Ben Solo and will bring the character of Kylo Ren from “Driver” back to the big screen.
This isn’t just another creative misstep by Disney: In many ways, the Mouse House has just passed up a real chance to save Star Wars.
star wars a new hope
Driver spoke to The Associated Press about the film, confirmed its title and said it will take place in 2019 after a major disaster The rise of skywalker. According to the actor, Lucasfilm “loved the idea” and “completely understood our angle and why we were doing it.” Unfortunately, when they showed the finished script to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, “they rejected it” for the simple reason that “they had no idea how Ben Solo was alive,” which seemed to kill any hope of the film ever seeing the light of day.

The rejection was actually historic, with Steven Soderbergh personally asking Kathleen Kennedy if Disney had ever rejected a Lucasfilm-approved movie script. She confirmed “this is the first time,” which means she’s just as confused as Soderbergh and Driver as to why Disney didn’t want to make the movie. Unfortunately, this rejection may have sealed the fate of Star Wars, a franchise Disney has been steadily advancing for nearly a decade.
The best part of the worst movie
That’s because, compared to other talented performers like Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, Adam Driver far away The most talented actors in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Even though his dialogue is pretty terrible (as is basically every geek movie), he manages to provide enough nuance to Kylo Ren to effectively portray a fallen character who still has goodness hidden inside of him. On top of that, his chemistry with Daisy Ridley was so good that it spawned a thousand fanfics (shout out to all you Relos!).

If Disney gave The Hunt for Ben Solo If the green light had been given, we would have had a Star Wars movie focused solely on the character of Adam Driver, rather than having him be part of a larger cast. The actor performs very well in such circumstances; if you doubt that, just go and see how great he is marriage storyWith a small cast and intimate subject matter, this film allows Driver to display an all-around simply stunning performance. Just imagine how good he could be in a Star Wars movie playing a character more complex than a mustache-twirling villain!
Save two movies at the same time
Additionally, Daisy Ridley’s New Jedi Order movie appears to be stillborn, and there are strong rumors that the upcoming Starfighter movie will include Rey as a way to pilot her own solo movie. We don’t have any details on this story The Hunt for Ben Solobut it’s safe to assume that Daisy Ridley will play at least a small part in it. If Disney really wanted to get fans interested in a Rey solo movie (or, as rumored, the entire Rey trilogy), what better way to do that than by making a Kylo Ren movie starring the sequel trilogy’s Oscar-nominated Secret Weapon Adam Driver?

There is still a small chance The Hunt for Ben Solo After news of the aborted film spread, fans flew a plane over Disney Studios with a “Hunt for Ben Solo” banner. Other fans erected a billboard in Times Square that read “No One Really Leaves,” “Hope Lives,” and “Ben Lives!” Interestingly, there are even rumors that Adam Driver plans to spur fan demand for the film, much like Ryan Reynolds did by leaking Deadpool test footage and building hype for the first movie dead Pool Movie.
To do or not to do, Disney
I hope this rumor is true…Rebellion is built on hope, and if anyone can effectively force Disney to make a great Star Wars movie, it’s Adam Driver. But the Mouse House has handled this series so poorly that I doubt they will admit their mistakes and create a movie starring their best actor and directed by an Oscar-winning director. It’s not just another screw-up either: reject a great idea like this and embrace a tepid movie like The Mandalorian and GroguDisney effectively passed up its last real chance to save its most famous franchise.

Sorry, Star Wars fans. But here’s the lesson: once you start down the corporate path, it will forever dictate your destiny!
