Dodgers transfer Michael Kopech to 60-day IL

The Dodgers announced right-handed today Tyler Glasnow It has recovered from the 60-day injury list, a move reported a few days ago. Right-leaning Alexis Díaz Selected by minors to open an active roster, correct Michael Copci Transferred to the 60-day IL, opening a 40-person position.

For Kopech, this is a bit worrying. Due to inflammation in his right knee, he was placed on July 1 for only 15 days on July 1. At the time, the pitcher himself and manager Dave Roberts downplayed the severity. “I think we all hope it will be on the shorter end,” Roberts said at ESPN’s Alden González last week.

The comment hasn’t been completely candid since then, or something has changed, as the current transfer means Copci is not eligible to return to late August. The Dodgers have not provided any specific information on how long they expect Kopech to be eliminated, but the transfer at least provides the best case scenario.

It was both unfortunate developments for both the Copci and the Dodgers. He also started the season at Illinois State University due to a shoulder impact, missing over two months. He was healthy enough to give the Dodgers seven closed innings before returning to Illinois.

For the Dodgers, this is another one with a long list of injuries. They are pushing Illinois players toward IL throughout the year, especially when it comes to pitching. Even today, Glasnow drove off the shelf, Illinois still had 11 arms. There is no kopech in the bullpen, Evan Phillips,,,,, Blake Treinen,,,,, Brusdar Graterol and Michael Grove. Phillips and Grove had major surgery and will not be back this year.

If Kopucci can return in August or September, he can still be part of the club’s bullpen and make the playoffs. Anyway, the Dodgers are going to add some arms before the deadline. All competitive clubs are looking for bullpen to add at this time of year, and the Dodgers should be motivated by increasing injuries.

As far as Kopucci is concerned, he is an upcoming free agent. He can still go back and go to the open market with some juice, but so far it’s not an ideal platform season. He had previously worked hard to establish himself as a starter for the White Sox, partly due to injuries, but the recent bullpen move seemed to be a good transition for him.

Last year, he dropped 43 2/3 innings from the Chicago bullpen. 4.74 ERA is not good, and the walking rate is not 12.6%, but he beats 30.9% of the batsmen. After trading to the Dodgers, he reached another level, throwing 24 innings with 1.13 ERA. His strikeout rate of 33% and his walking rate of 11.4% have both improved slightly, although he also benefited from the average ball score in the game and 90.9% stock. Still, he played a key role in the playoffs, allowing three innings to be thrown nine innings as the Dodgers continued to win everything.

Another full season as a relief weapon, will position him as a good market this winter. But now, ongoing health problems may dampen his income ability. As mentioned earlier, he still seems to have time to get healthy and get strong results, but his list of injured history continues to last for a long time. He missed the 2019 season due to surgery by Tommy John, and has since spent some time on IL due to tight left hamstrings, strains of left knee muscle, inflammation of the right shoulder and inflammation of the right knee. Last year, he managed to avoid IL as a remedial person, but has now been injured several times here in 2025.
