Now that the DCU has successfully debuted, it is more important than ever for the MCU to establish its own independent brand image. Ironically, however, Marvel’s next major project appears to borrow heavily from one of the biggest DC Comics storylines of all time.
New report shows Spider-Man: A Brand New Day There will be a mysterious foe that breaks Spider-Man’s colorful foes out of prison, which is exactly what Bane did in the “Knightfall” storyline, which ended with the villain breaking the Caped Crusader’s back.

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Marvel was filming scenes in which Spider-Man fights ninjas. Now, exclusive Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK on X) reports Spider-Man: A Brand New Day The scene will feature Spider-Man and the Punisher fighting Mike-controlled villains who are busy trying to break Scorpion out of prison. Taken together, these reports may shed light on a plot in which some mysterious new villain (possibly Sadie Sink’s character) is breaking the web’s biggest villain out of prison, forming the biggest threat our heroes have ever known.
As a child of the ’80s, I couldn’t help but notice how similar this basic premise was to an element of Batman’s “Knightfall” storyline, which climaxed when Bane freed the Dark Knight’s most ferocious foe from Arkham Asylum. His intention was to create a challenge that would test Batman’s limits. Once he was mentally and physically drained, Bane burst into the Batcave and broke Batman’s back.
The birth of the Sinister Six?
This is obviously just a superficial resemblance, and we don’t yet know why Spider-Man’s villain wants to break his foe out of prison. At this point, we don’t even know who the villain is. They might, like Bane, want to create a formidable enemy challenge for the hometown hero (like Captain America, he could do this all day long). Or they might be trying to form a team (like the Sinister Six!) that can work as a team to take on our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Regardless, if Marvel were taking a page from a competitor, they would be choosing one of DC’s better stories for inspiration. Nightfall is exciting because it forces Batman to fight an iconic villain later on, an approach that should work well in the Marvel Universe. After all, the one thing cooler than watching Spider-Man fight a supervillain is watching him fight Some Supervillains, preferably all at the same time.
Dark Pantyhose Rise
The reference to Nightfall is also fitting, as it’s one of the darkest Batman stories, weakening the Dark Knight and replacing him with a murderous religious fanatic. Spider-Man: A Brand New Day The film will reportedly have a more serious tone than the previous films, as it will deal with the emotional impact of the world forgetting who Spider-Man is. In this case, a story about a villain channeling their inner bane and bringing Spider-Man’s rogues gallery out of prison could create an external conflict that mirrors the emotionally chaotic inner turmoil of our protagonist.
Only time will tell how much Spider-Man: A Brand New Day Will draw upon DC’s Nightfall storyline, and how much of it will be completely original. However, it’s one thing to copy the basic idea of an old story, and another thing to copy its typically cool vibe. unless Brand newYou can tell this classic DC story while telling an original story filled with the heart and nostalgia of Homecoming. No way homeits box office may end up being like Batman himself: beaten and broken.
