Dyson Supersonic R Hair Dryer Review: A Small Power Room

Blow dry my hair It feels like floss: necessary, boring, and I do things just because I know I will regret it if I don’t know. I don’t want to daydream with my hair drying. I don’t want to aim the thermal device at my scalp for about 15 minutes while my comfortable podcast drowns out the noise. However, I kept reaching for the Dyson Supersonic R. That’s what it is saying.
For a company known for overengineering, from vacuums to hair styling tools to air purifiers, Supersonic R is Dyson’s most restricted. It narrows down the flash of the original cult’s most popular supersonics and focuses on ease of use. This is not about being your hairdresser or smart assistant. It just wants to make your morning easier – $570 (Gulp).

You don’t need to be a hairstylist to appreciate the redesign. The R weighs just 0.7 pounds, and the R is 30% smaller and 20% lighter than its predecessor (1.8 pounds). You will feel it immediately, especially if you are used to standard clothes dryers. The lowercase “R” refers to the curved shape of the device, which is a pink periscope. It can be comfortably wrapped around your hands and head. It will be easier to manipulate tricky spots on tricky attractions without switching hands or twisting your wrists.
Inside, it’s still typical Dyson. The brand rotates at 110,000 rpm to power high-speed airflow. The air is then heated by a redesigned heater, with 10 foil elements in the dryer curve. With 1,700 watts of power, R is technically more powerful than OG and Supersonic Nural (9/10, Wired recommended). The compact build is also slightly larger (80.1 dB vs. 77).

These include five magnetic accessories: a diffuser, wide-toothed comb, professional concentrator, airflow accessories and a smoother flight range. None of these are revolutionary for Dyson users, but the company’s accessories are still the best. In particular, the flies’ attachments still do a great job of smoothing the straight outer layer without serum or oil. New is that each attachment has an RFID chip that automatically adjusts the dryer to its last use settings.
