Ed will not fund CTE, the number of double enrollment for “illegal” students

The education department said Thursday that federal funding should not provide dual enrollment, adult education, and certain career and technical education for “illegal foreigner” students, whether adults or students who are undergoing post-college education.
Department officials said in a press release that they are revoking a portion of the 1997 Dear Colleague letter that allows undocumented students to access the programs.
In published explanatory rules Federal Gazettethe department declared that “the access to educational benefits (higher education benefits or other aspects) is not allowed, while unqualified foreign children are not eligible for post-secondary education benefits and certain other educational benefits as long as these benefits are not basic public education benefits. Educational benefits for specialized disciplines include dual recruitment and other similar early-stage college courses.”
“Under President Trump’s leadership, hard-working U.S. taxpayers will no longer pay illegal foreigners to participate in our career, technology, technology or adult education programs or activities. The department will ensure that taxpayer funds are reserved to citizens with laws and comply with our laws, those who will encounter our laws, those who will meet federally versatile funding,” said Education Secretary Linda McMahon in a press release.
Augustus Mays, vice president of partnerships and participation at Edtrust, Education Equity Group, said in a statement that the change “a decision that makes the barrier higher barriers futile for minors to fund higher student access barriers and engages in higher students who will be obsolete to access barriers and benefit from the workforce.
“Nationwide, we see the goal of immigrant communities is to raid full-scale surveillance, amplification of surveillance and fear-based rhetoric aimed at divisive and inhumane,” Mays said. “Such policies do not exist in a vacuum. They stem from the political agenda of alternative immigration and use fear to deprive rights and resources from the most vulnerable of us.”
