ESPN’s flagship streaming app has a super simple name

Streaming service names are all over the map – some add plus, premium or pro words to indicate that they have features worth the extra payment. Now, CNBC reports that ESPN has chosen the name of the upcoming standalone streaming service, and it will return to the basics: The app will be called “ESPN.” If true, it is a simple but practical option in a market with chaotic streaming services.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said the service is expected to arrive in fall 2025. Prices and bundled deals will drop next week on Disney’s quarterly earnings call. The previously reported cost is estimated to be $25 or $30 per month.

The streaming service will include everything ESPN offers, including live sports events, documentaries, studio programming, and programming on other wired networks such as ESPN2, SEC Network and ESPN on ABC. Fantasy sports content and new interactive betting elements that have not been explained will also be included.
ESPN Plus is the company’s existing streaming channel that is not affected by releases due to content differences. ESPN Plus does not include live games where many customers stay up late, such as Monday Night Football. It will keep the price at a lower price of $12 per month or bundled with Disney+ and Hulu for $17.
