European leaders’ statements on Trump Putin’s conversation in Alaska
(Reuters) – The text followed was written in a statement co-published at the Ukrainian summit in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin
The statement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Starmer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Donald Tusk, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der der Leyen.
“This morning, President Trump reported to us and President Zelensky after meeting with the Russian President in Alaska on August 15, 2025.
“The leaders welcome President Trump’s efforts to stop the killings in Ukraine, end the war of aggression in Russia and achieve just and lasting peace.
“As President Trump said, ‘there is no deal until the agreement is reached’. As President Trump envisions, further negotiations must be conducted next, including President Zelensky, who will meet soon.
“We are also ready to work with President Trump and President Zelenskyy to hold a trilateral summit with European support.
“We are well aware that Ukraine must have Tik’s security assurance in order to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We welcome President Trump’s statement that the United States is ready to provide security assurances. Willing coalitions are willing to play an active role.
