Falvey: Twins don’t focus on sales

The twins have had a rough situation lately but still want to avoid entering deadlines as sellers. Baseball Operations president Derek Falvey explained his ideas to members of the press this week, including Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star Tribune and Matthew Leach of MLB.com.
“[Selling is] “I’m not the focus now for me. I think when you think you have a team that you believe you have, and hopefully you’ll be healthier and get guys back here as soon as possible, you’ll feel like this group… when you’re able to put good baseballs together, it’s hard to think like that.” Falvey did open the door to the pivot later. It’s about figuring out how to get this team back to where they need it. ”
The twins proved to be one of the most inconsistent teams in this year’s Grand Slam. They scored 13-18 at the end of April, but rebounded in 13 consecutive wins in May and ended up being issued with a record of 18-8. However, they are now stepping back in June 6-16 performances so far.
They gave them a record of 37-42. They are not completely buried and are currently sitting in 4.5 games with Wildcard Spots. However, they need to go beyond six clubs to make the playoffs. The Fangraphs made them reach the playoffs with a baseball prospectus of 20.4%.
This puts them in a standout position with a deadline of only over a month. If their current downturn continues, their outlook will obviously worsen. And any other 13 straight wins or close games will push them in the opposite direction.
If the twins can be added, starting to pitch will be a natural goal as they have lost both recently Pablo López and Zebby Matthews Shoulder strain. It seems that the twins have hardly waited for the deadline lately, but the rotation has been almost added recently, but the commonality of pitching injuries has also indirectly hurt them.
“Pitching depth isn’t a real phrase to me,” Falvey said. “Every time you think you have something, it thins. Even if we were hurt a few times, there was a team that felt they had some tilt depth, and we had a short trade conversation, ‘Hey, can we pick up some?’ They opened in 72 hours and the team had two different pitching injuries that eventually stripped them from the market.”
It seems likely that Paul Blackburn metropolis. Shortly after López and Matthews hit the injured list, the Mets reportedly took trade interests in Blackburn due to their relative spin surplus. But as the report comes out, Kodai Senga Injured, then Tylor Megill Follow him to Illinois a few days later.
The current spin mixture for twins includes Joe Ryan,,,,, Bailey Ober,,,,, Chris Paddack,,,,, Simeon Woods Richardson and David Festa. Ideally, when Lopez and Matthews landed on the shelves, that group would step up, but that wasn’t the case. Ober sometimes works, but it’s ugly on June’s 8.51 ERA. This is a similar story for Paddack, which has 6.11 ERA this month. Woods Richardson has 5.06 for the year and Festa is 6.39.
The club’s record will obviously be a big factor in watching next month, but so will the starting team. Matthews may return to the club by the deadline, and Lopez may make some progress in returns. Of course, the guys in the current roster can improve their results in the next few weeks.
If the club struggles in the next few weeks, then the sell model must be considered. Players like Paddack, Willi Castro,,,,, Harrison Bud,,,,, Danny Coulombe and France Coming free agents and will attract interest. They will definitely get calls from players with more control, e.g. Ryan Jeffers,,,,, JhoanDurán,,,,, Trevor Larnach There are others.
If the club can enter the deadline as a buyer, a classic baseball deal is possible. “I feel like 12 of the 15 American League teams [being in contention]Sometimes you have to evaluate the needs you need at the major league level. No one likes to trade from depth at their major league level. But if we find the right opportunity overlaps, we must be open to it. I don’t think this is a possible path because you don’t see it often. But I think we have to at least have these conversations and be open-minded. ”
The twins have many interesting players Edouard Julien,,,,, Austin Martin and Emmanuel Rodriguez. It is also possible Reus Lewis Can be returned from IL before the deadline, Luke Keaschall Progress is also possible. Maybe the twins could also consider traders like Castro, Bard, France or someone else, even if they are still in the game if they feel they can add some pitches while still having a lot of position player talent.
Money is another noteworthy factor for teams that don’t have the ability to spend as much as the twins. Falvey solved the situation but pointed out that it is still in the air like everything else at the club. “If we get close to the deadline and have a decision to make a decision, I always bring this to the Pohlad family, Joe [Pohlad, primary owner] And said: “I think it’s the right baseball decision for us or not.” We have enough opportunities to have these conversations and have the opportunity to add in the right situation. I have confidence that I will be able to have these conversations again; where they land and what they are, I cannot predict yet. ”
