Former U.S. intelligence analyst sentenced to seven years for selling “sensitive” information

A former U.S. Army intelligence officer was sentenced to seven years in prison after selling “sensitive” defense information.

Korbein Schultz was sentenced to 84 months in prison on Wednesday for conspiracy to collect and deliver defense information … to people he believes are linked to the Chinese government,” the Justice Department said in a press release.

According to the Justice Department, Schultz sent “dozens of sensitive U.S. military documents” to China’s ties between May 2022 and March 2024. The documents included lessons learned by the Ukrainian war, some technical manuals, and information on U.S. military satellite and missile defense systems, it said.

Authorities say he received $42,000 in compensation for the efforts.

In August 2024, Schultz pleaded guilty to the charges filed in the previous indictment against him.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement Wednesday that Schultz “betrayed “the oath to defend the United States” to pay the payment, which she said puts U.S. military and service personnel at risk.

“The Justice Department is alert to China’s efforts to target our military and will ensure that those who leak military secrets spend years in prison,” Bondy said.
