John Daly plans to play in a major competition next week, just not in the PGA Championship.
The biggest quirk in the 2025 schedule is that the regional tradition of Birmingham, Alabama — the first of five majors in the PGA Tour champion — was the same week as the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“I could go there, miss the cuts, get $6,000,” Daley said of the PGA Championship. “But I’m playing Birmingham. I like the region. They are a great sponsor. But why would they arrange the area the same week as the PGA champions, where I can see Brooks (Koepka) and all the guys? ”
It may usually be crowded on golf, and regional traditions don’t want to attend this week because it’s hard to get support on Mother’s Day. The week after the PGA Championship is the senior PGA champion in Congress.
On April 27, NASCAR’s progress in Talladega (NASCAR) was difficult.
Daly was also not in his best condition after his left-hand surgery in January. His biggest problem, he said, is still three quarters of the shots-that and his putts. Last week, he finished with a 27-shot edge at the Insperity Invitational, a race he won in 2017 and finished second in 2020.
But he is not ready for the PGA Tour championship, even with 16 surgeries and bladder cancer.

Daly isn’t the only former PGA champion next week.
Rich Beem, who knocked out Tiger Woods in 2002, chose not to compete this year after a tough game at Valhalla last year. Beem is working for Sky Sports at a large event and feels he doesn’t have enough time to prepare for the big class this year. Quail Hollow has 7,262 yards and works as a 71-shot.
“I gave it to me last year,” he said. “Even if I had success with Bethpage (2019) and you lost 10 yards, you could lose 100 yards.”
He said he plans to skip Aronimink next year but will return to the PGA Championship in his hometown of Texas in 2027, and he hopes the dry and firm conditions will help.
Davis Love III (recovered from cardiac surgery), Ye Yang is also not in next week’s PGA Championship.
