Framework suspends some U.S. laptop sales due to tariffs
Today, the consumer electronics brand framework on X will temporarily suspend sales of selected laptop models caused by the U.S.’s global tariffs set for the country last week. The company said it will remove the Ultra 5 125h and Ryzen 5 7640U versions of its system from its website. At the time of release, the Ultra 5 Intel model was not listed, but it seems that the Ryzen 5 with AMD chips is still available.
In a follow-up, the company said it initially priced its laptops under a 0% tariff on Taiwanese goods. The product will be sold at a loss due to the current 10% tariff. “Other consumer goods manufacturers have performed the same calculations and taken the same measures, although most people have not yet opened up to it,” the framework said.
Given the language of the initial post, this doesn’t seem to be the end of the opportunity for American customers to buy the laptop 13 model. But the huge tariffs on import taxes issued by President Donald Trump last week have sparked other industries to reconsider its sales and pricing. The UK has also suspended shipments to the United States due to tariffs, while Japan has delayed reservations for Switch 2 consoles, although the release date appears to have not changed.
