Genesis recently revealed its X Gran Coupe and X Gran convertible concepts based on its full-size G90 sedan at the Seoul Mobility Fair in Goyang, South Korea. The automaker described its concept, which heralded its approach to the luxury segment as a derivative of its flagship G90 model. The concepts’ “front end contains Genesis” signature two-line headlights, which extend to each model’s Crest Grille and enlarged fenders. The 3D mesh of the grille influences the ordered braided metal strings in two diamond-shaped lines. The front lower air intake is wide and has a grille grid, and the extended hood adds another dynamic element. These concepts steeper windshields highlight their sporty shape and complement the lower roof height. Frameless windows contribute to the refined aesthetic of the vehicle, while door extensions are even more extended for easy entry and exit.

The integration of roof and distance tracks further enhances the clean look of these concepts, while placing the belt behind divides the convertible’s body from the soft-top roof. The X Gran convertible’s wheels contrast sharply with two rows of spokes in a sculptural cross-section, while its coupe rivals include five double-spoke designs and layered secondary spokes. Instead of a positive or negative bumper offset, Genesis smooths the rear of these models, creating a more cohesive look that directs attention to the two lines of taillights. The tail tube is wide, slim and rectangular; horizontal highlights create a compelling contrast.

Advanced external technologies for the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts include a hidden retractable rear camera and touchless trunk operation, drivers activated with gestures. The Mediterranean olive tree inspired the interior of the X Gran Coupe concept, with the doorbed named after the model. The steering wheel, center console and ventilation system of the coupe reveal details such as crystals that reflect the sunlight. The individual notable touch in the cabin of Genesis X Gran Coupe consists of the model’s floor mat, tunnel sections with seams, stitching, olive-themed ambient lighting, chrome-free leather, made from natural tanning materials produced by Italian Olive Oil, made from natural tanning materials. The interior of the convertible concept contains a shadow reminiscent of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that produce a monochromatic effect against crystal details. Both concept steering wheels have an aluminum bottom base and front seats, and feature a recessed screen, rear passenger vents and integrated display.

The final thought
While Genesis’X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible are concepts, they look close enough to what you see at a car dealership today or at least a few years later. It must also be remembered that the GV80 Coupe is an example of a conceptual Genesis production model. The fact that the Genesis’X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts are based on the automaker’s flagship G90 is another positive indicator that the production of both designs is a clear possibility.
