The couple own a farm in the south of France with 100 acres of vines and 1,200 olive trees that serves as their primary residence. The pair also own additional homes in England and Italy.
Clooney has previously spoken out about his decision to raise his children on a farm after growing up in his native Kentucky, explaining how his view of country life has changed over the years.
“I grew up on a farm a large part of my life, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of a farm,” he explains Esquire October about wanting to leave Los Angeles. “But now, for them, it’s like – they’re not using iPads anymore, you know? They’re having dinner with adults and they have to bring the food in. Their lives are so much better.”
The actor noted that he was “worried” about raising his twins in “Hollywood culture,” a place he felt would “never” give them a “fair shake” in normal life.
“France – they don’t take fame very seriously,” he explains. “I don’t want them walking around worrying about the paparazzi. I don’t want them to be compared to other people’s famous kids.”
The actor said time spent on the farm also taught his children how to get their hands dirty, recalling the time he asked them to repaint an old property fence that had been damaged by the sun.
“At first they were just doing these little, little strokes, pop, pop, pop,” he quipped. “I said, ‘No, paint the damn fence.’ And they went crazy painting the fence and it was covered in paint and oil and stuff.”
While officially becoming French citizens may be new to the family of four, Georges and Amal, 47, are very familiar with the European way of life. The couple met on Lake Como in Italy in 2013 and tied the knot in Venice the following year.
