Giants hire Tony Vitlow as head coach

The Giants and University of Tennessee baseball head coach Tony Vitlow have reached an agreement that will see Vitlow become San Francisco’s new head coach, according to Baseball America’s Jacob Rudner. The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly, Brittany Ghiroli and Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday that Vitello and the Giants are close to reaching an agreement, with ESPN’s Jeff Passan adding that a decision either way would be made within 24 to 72 hours.

As it turns out, it took about a day to fully finalize the deal, but the bottom line is that the Giants now have one of the most interesting front offices in baseball history. Vitello has no experience as a manager, coach or player in professional baseball, as all of his coaching experience has been at the college level.
