I am a vampire fanatic, sitting there and totally obsessed with Coogler on that level, watching the most refined, bloody sunsets of Kuogler cooking to achieve a full-scale struggle of the artistic soul. On the first viewing, there were almost too many layers to unpack, but all of them were delivered cleverly.

There is too much tension between the dangers of friendly whites being friendly, their eyes behind trying to get into the club, and the undeniable magnetism of the leading women in the film. Hailee Steinfeld plays Stack’s rejected lover with Mosaku, who so enthusiastically brings her man back – well, let’s say the movie is horny in the best way. You never want to avoid eyes between the sights and the ample sinful pleasure of sounds.
