How the “Handmaid’s Story” ensures that at least one character is truly happy ending

In the first episode of season 1 The story of the maidthe audience meets Janine, played by Madeline Brewer. Like Elisabeth Moss’ main character June, she is kidnapped by Gilead and now in the Red Center, the new maid is forced to learn their terrifying new duties. When Jenny replied, she was dragged away by the punishment of the Bible: Losing eyes. This sets the tone for Janine’s agonizing journey throughout the series, but she never loses her spirit and, in the end, the show brings her an ecstasy last moment.
Her missing eyes – usually but not always obscured by her trademark patch – were more or less the only constant for Jenny in six seasons. After the first maid in the June group gave birth, she enjoyed the fantasy of keeping a baby girl. Of course, this is not Gilead’s way, and Charlotte (Janine’s name is her daughter; the kidnapper, commander Putnam and his wife Naomi, called her Angela), were almost torn from her arms.
Afterwards, she plays different roles with varying degrees of freedom – in a little bit of her exile, eradicating the toxic waste of the terrible colonies. Another survived after a brief escape from Gilead to Chicago. In the last season The story of the maidWe see her assisting Aunt Lydia in the Red Center, building on complex relationships rooted in power, inner gui, co-trauma and occasional attempts to be kind.
In season 6, former maid Janine is forced into another kind of sexual slavery, struggling hard at Jezebel’s, a brothel created for the two-sided commander of Gilead. There, she meets Angela’s new adoptive father: Lawrence, a grumpy but non-evil commander who barely marrys Naomi for reasons frankly, it’s too long. (It is The story of the maid– The worst expected! ) He knew Jenny’s situation and brought her a sketch of the little girl, a kind move that made Jenny hope that one day she would see her again.
This situation will be shocked when Jezebel is destroyed and Jenny is snatched away by a commander who is interested in her. Eventually, though, when June killed the guy, her long agony finally ended (actually stabbed him in the eye), and after another brief and terrible job in captivity, she was freed from Gilead forever.
Most importantly, though, as June and the company are eager to keep her safe, we see Aunt Lydia and Naomi appear. Incredibly, they took Angela/Charlotte with her mom and lived a cruel life in Gilead. although The story of the maid The series finale ends with many characters still at the midpoint of the journey, which is not the case with Jenny. It was a truly happy ending for her.

Understandably, it was so exciting for me that her character finally got her greatest wish when she spoke to the Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s so beautiful. I’m very happy with Jenny’s ending,” she said. “It could go a lot of different ways, and that’s everything she wants.”
She continued. “I don’t think I really hope for anything because I can’t even imagine it. It’s not my job either (laughs) [to write the show]but that’s the same reason why I’ve never made too many decisions before… so I don’t want to make too many decisions. I want to be surprised by my way. And it does…I am proud that Janine has always been herself, not letting them take the fire from her. And become a good friend, a good mother and a good person. ”
The show is usually very bleak, but to be praised – at least Jenny finally finally won. All seasons The story of the maid It is now available on Hulu.
