How to indent Microsoft Word and Google Docs – Teaching

Step-by-step instructions for line and hanging dents and provide tips for using rulers – mobile friendly and easy to follow.

Microsoft Word (Windows/Mac)

The fastest way

  1. Place the cursor at the beginning of the line.
  2. according to Tab Indent about 0.5 inches at a time.
  3. according to Backpace First, remove the dent.

Button method

  1. go Home > Add dents.
  2. use Reduce dents Move backwards.

Set first line or hanging dents

  1. Select your paragraph.
  2. Open paragraph Dialog Box (Home>Small Transmitter).
  3. Below Dint>Specialchoose The first line or Hanging And set the amount (for example 0.5 inches).
  4. Click OK.

Precise control of rulers: go View > Ruler. Drag the top triangle (first line), the bottom triangle (bottom left corner) or the square (whole paragraph).

  3. according to Backpace delete.

Set first line or hanging dents

  1. Select your text.
  2. go Format>Align & Indent>Depress Options.
  3. choose The first line or Hanging and set the size.
  4. Click Apply.

Use rulers: View > Performance Rulerand then drag the mark like text.

Tip: Save time by editing the default paragraph style (normal text) so that each new paragraph follows the same indentation settings.
