Immigration ship fell from Yemen and Djibouti, at least 2 people died and 186 were missing

Cairo (AP) – Four migrant ships tilted in waters near Yemen and Djibouti, killing two people and missing 186 people, the UN immigration agency said.

Tamim Eleian, a spokesman for the International Organization for Migration, said two ships were tilted in Yemen on Thursday. He told the Associated Press that two crew members were rescued, but 181 immigrants and five Yemeni crew members were missing.

He said that around the same time, two other ships tilted in the small country of Djibouti. The bodies of two immigrants were found and all other immigrants were rescued.

According to IOM, 558 people died in 2024 along routes used by many immigrants from Africa Eagles to Yemen, across the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
