Pop stars Katy Perry and journalists Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez, also the fiancé of billionaire Jeff Bezos, made their final preparations this weekend before exploding into space on the Blue Origin rocket on Monday.
According to the Blue Origin website, the window is scheduled to open at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Rockets will explode from the company’s West Texas launch site.
The mission consists of the first all-female pilot in more than sixty years. Other crew members include astrophysicist Aisha Bowe, activist and biological anxiety researcher Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
The new Shepard rocket is an 18-meter suborbital spacecraft that will take crew to the Kármán line, the internationally recognized space boundary, said in a statement issued on February 27.
Passengers will experience a few minutes of microgravity and then land in the West Texas desert assisted by parachutes.
This is the 11th human flight of the Rocket and its overall 31st flight. The last recorded all-female space flight was the solo of 1963 Soviet astronaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space.
