India announced measures against Pakistan, the day after 26 people were killed by gunmen in India, in an Indian-managed Kashmir attack.
These include closing major border crossings that link the two countries, suspending a water sharing treaty and expelling diplomats.

The Pakistani government said its National Security Council, the country’s highest military and security agency, will meet on Thursday.

The Pahalgam attack has the potential to hit long-term tensions among nuclear weapons competitors.
“The perpetrators of the attack will be brought to justice and their sponsors,” the Indian government said in a statement.
It said India will “not persist in pursuing those who commit terrorist acts or complicit in making them possible”.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also earlier stated that India’s response will be more than just a response to the perpetrators.
“We will not only contact those who have committed this incident, but also sit behind the scenes and accomplices in conducting such acts on Indian land,” he said.
The attack has been widely condemned by international leaders and has aroused anger and condolences in India.
