Jannik Sinner assured fans after his U.S. Open semifinal victory against Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday night, which was a reason to pay attention to his health. The Italian left the court after losing a second set of dress to receive treatment in his stomach area.
“When I was there at 4-3 in the second set, I just felt a small twitch. After the treatment, it felt much better,” Sina said. “At some point, I was feeling nothing. I was getting back to normal speed, so everything was fine. There was nothing to worry about.
“But I’d rather get off the court because it’s in another place. So everything is fine.”
Despite being forced to leave the court and abandoning his second game, the No. 1 player in the PIF ATP rankings won four wins for the fifth time in a row.
Sinner has won three of his last four Grand Slams and could win five games if he beat rival Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s championship game. The Italian is trying to seize his fifth major trophy.
“Amazing stats. I never thought I would do this when I became a professional, and now I find myself here, so it’s amazing,” Sina said. “I think five consecutive Grand Slam finals were great. Consistency and putting myself in the late stages of the biggest competition we’ve held is amazing.
“But at the same time, I know it’s behind my head, whatever I’m doing, but at the same time, whatever I’m doing.
The defending champion knows he faces a harsh test on Alcalaz, who leads the Lexus ATP Head2head series 9-5. Sinner played against the 22-year-old in the Roland Garros final, but fell short of scores. The Italian then retaliated against Alcalaz in the Wimbledon final.
“I love these challenges. I love putting myself in these positions. He’s a guy who forces me to limit it, and that’s great because then you have the best feedback the players can get.” “We’ve faced each other a lot lately, so things have become a little different.
“When we step into court, we realize more things, because of him or me, we try to prepare for the game in tactical and different ways. But sometimes it’s nice to not play with him. It’s nice. But, as I keep saying, it’s great for sports that have competition and hopefully there’s a great game in front of us.”
