Openai’s GPT-4.5 is here.
On Thursday, ChatGpt Maker announced the latest version of LLM (Big Language Model) in a research preview. As Openai CEO Sam Altman said a few weeks ago, GPT-4.5 is Openai’s last non-linked model, meaning all future models will have reasoning capabilities.
“Early testing showed that interacting with GPT-4.5 felt more natural,” the white paper said. “Its broader knowledge base, stronger consistency with user intentions, and improved emotional intelligence make it ideal for tasks like writing, programming, and solving real-world problems – fewer hallucinations.”
In the demonstration, OpenAI team members discussed that GPT-4.5 is not a reasoning model, but it still has advanced knowledge that can reason through problems, even if it is compared to the O series, it should be used as a general tool, which is best for science and mathematics for science and mathematics.
GPT-4.5 is the latest addition to its GPT series since Openai announced the GPT-4O in May last year. Over the past year, Openai has also provided efforts for inference models, O1, O3-Mini and O3-Mini-High to focus more on models that rely on computing power (test time calculations) in real time rather than extensive training and more data.

The release of GPT-4.5 also reminds you that the launch of the elusive GPT-5 is not planned yet. Continuous rumors suggest that OpenAI’s return on model improvements is reduced, suggesting that the scaling law (more calculations, larger data sets) used to train models may not equal improvement results.
This is a possible reason why we haven’t seen the massively hyped GPT-5. Ultraman said it would be smarter than he and former CTO Mira Murati, who said he would have “intelligence with a doctorate”. Meanwhile, we now have GPT-4.5, which may indicate that Openai is about to reach high expectations or stagnate.
Anonymous former Openai employee told wealth GPT-4.5 is called Orion internally and should be GPT-5, but it cannot achieve enough performance to deserve the GPT-5 name. Ultraman said the GPT-5 could be within a few months.
How to try GPT-4.5
As of today, we can start testing GPT-4.5. Well, not everyone. GPT-4.5 is currently only available for Chatgpt Pro members who sell $200 per month, with access to Chatgpt plus subscribers who pay $20 per month, which will be available for sale next week. Just a week apart, but subscribers used to be the top level that granted early access to new features, now wonder why they don’t even bother to subscribe.

While Openai undoubtedly hopes to gain more professional subscribers, this can have anomalous effect by alienating subscribers plus subscribers who suddenly have great options with catching up competitors like Xai’s Grok 3, DeepSeek R1 and Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet.
