Lakers owner Jeanie Buss talks about the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade, Luka’s special connection with Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
“I look back and I remember the last time I saw Kobe still alive – about a month before he died,” the bus said Rich Eisen performs. “He brought Gigi to the Lakers’ game to watch Luca because Luca is Gigi’s favorite player. Luca is the Lakers’ idea now – I know how happy that would make Kobe and Gigi.”
The bus continued that she never thought she would play for the Lakers in a generation of stars like Don Cic.
“You know, in my position, there are some players in the league that you think, ‘I have no way to have that player on my team.’ It’s impossible – unless you draft stars like this, they usually don’t move,” the bus said. “We don’t want to move Anthony Davis when the opportunity arises.”
“He’s a player in our rock music and we have to give up a lot to get Luca.”
The bus continued to say that talking about the move, thinking her late father Jerry would do the same.
“From the old neighborhood debris,” the bus said. “I don’t know this is something my dad would do, but you have to remember that what we want is Anthony Davis’ work, which is why they come to us, and that’s why the conversation started.”
The way the deal is handled and the fact that neither party breathes a word to the players or the NBA media is a huge topic. The bus defended the move and explained that it was the only way.
“What really matters is General Manager Rob Pelinka, and I know we don’t want any part of it to leak out because it’s very disruptive to the team trying to focus on getting better,” Bass said. “We have a rookie coach at JJ Redick and if it doesn’t pass, the idea of blowing up something that explodes for a similar deal would have an impact. So it’s really tight, discussing every step of the way, and we were able to reach an agreement that both sides were satisfied with.”
