Justin Thomas as Master Joe Greiner

Justin Thomas will have a full caddie on his schoolbag at this week’s Masters.

Joe Greiner recently broke up with Max Homa, who will work with Thomas, who said Tuesday night that his usual caddie, Minister Matt “Rev” had hurt his back and couldn’t fit on his schoolbag.

“Rev is taking a break, so he’ll get better soon,” Thomas wrote on social media. “I’m lucky that Joe Greiner was a good friend who was able to help me at the last minute.”

Thomas told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington that caddy sports all happened within the last 36 hours. Greiner and Thomas were not paired with Thomas during a practice match at Augusta National on Tuesday.

Greiner tied for third place in Augusta National last year. Unfortunately for Homa, a six-time PGA Tour champion who once ranked fifth in the world, has since received serious investment, which led to his breakup with Greiner before Valera’s Texas Open last week.

Earlier Tuesday, Homa, who was in the Masters this week, broke up with his childhood friend Greiner, saying it was not his choice.

“We always make a deal, we are friends first, friendship is more important than work, and he is wise enough to do what he does,” Homa said.

“It’s hard. I’m used to his habits. … But I’m glad he did – at the end of my day we continued to be good friends, more upset about how hard the game was than one of us was.

“So it’s awful, because I just imagine Joe always walking the fairway with Joe. But, that’s not-it’s not a deal. I’d rather be with Joe forever than this stupid game. So it’s hard to deal with, but it’s also good to some extent because friendship is really more important than any of these things.”

Bill Harke has been on Homa’s bag since Greiner split.
