Katie Thurston admits she struggled mentally during battle with cancer

Katie Thurston about her ongoing battle with breast cancer and the impact it had on her mentally and emotionally.
She admitted in an Instagram Story on Friday, November 14, “I haven’t been on my health lately. It’s been slow to come back. We thought it might be the vents because we were using the heaters more and more. As renters, we didn’t know how long it had been since they had been cleaned, if at all.”
She continued: “The heating unit is being professionally cleaned today and oh my gosh I think this is the culprit. Friendly reminder to check the air quality in your home and do regular maintenance! If you are a renter like me, don’t be afraid to ask when the air ducts were last cleaned. There are laws to protect us and our health.”
Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2025, he told Us in October Well! information She “did a great job all things considered.” (Thurston revealed that her cancer spread to her liver in March 2025.)
“I actually had my six-month scan on Monday, so I’m feeling really optimistic about that,” she told the outlet, before opening up about her support system and how they’ve held her up during her health struggles.
“You can’t face cancer alone,” she told the outlet, with husband Jeff Arcuri supporting her. “You really have to rely on your friends and family. And to have someone who is your partner and is there for you every step of the way? That means everything.”
Thurston also admitted that her battle with cancer changed the way she handles many things in her life.
“I realized you never know what someone is going through,” she said. “I find I’m more patient with strangers. If someone drives too slow or is grumpy, you don’t know what they’ve been through in their own life. So I feel like I’m kinder.”

“Tomorrow is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and if I was being serious I would be absolutely devastated,” Thurston said in a video posted on her Instagram Stories. “I don’t even know what I’m talking about, guys. I’m just trying to be honest. I know sometimes I look positive, but it’s hard to stay positive.”
She added, “I was really looking forward to, like, the end of the year being my final push and then everything would be okay. You know, the treatment was working and everything was fine. Instead, it’s like I hurt my liver, I’m lowering my medication, I’m postponing surgery, and I haven’t even talked about it yet.”
This isn’t the first time Thurston has spoken about the scarier parts of dealing with the disease. In April 2025, she told the hosts of “Uncomfortable Conversations” Emmanuel Acho She fears dying from the disease.
“I think it comes from reading about other people’s experiences. Just like everybody else, there’s a lot that’s unknown,” she said at the time. “People just haven’t experienced cancer. Usually you hear about stage four, you hear that it has spread to the liver, and I think people automatically assume that your life is already short.”
