Hicks, 58, shared her diagnosis via her Substack on Tuesday, December 2, revealing that she received test results from “recent skin cancer surgery” before the Thanksgiving holiday that were “not good.”
“It’s not a dramatic movie scene that’s not okay, but it’s just disturbingly not okay. It’s the kind of news that blurs the edges of the world a little bit,” she explains. “The results showed a worrying, fast-moving cancer cell under my calf.”
Interior designer and author Hicks continued: “My reaction was the same as most people’s: a strange mixture of cool practicality and a bit of private fear.”
The former model revealed, “You tell yourself you’re fine, you make tea, you answer emails, and all the while there’s a little voice inside whispering, What if it’s worse than we thought?”
India—whose mother, Mrs. Pamela Hicksa cousin of Charles’ late father, Prince Philipand descendant of the Mountbatten family – went on to explain the next steps, which included surgery. (Ms. Pamela, 96, is also the oldest surviving descendant of queen victoria and already late queen elizabeth iimaid. )
India told her followers on Tuesday that she found a surgeon in Miami who performs Mohs surgery, which “involves removing thin layers of skin. Each thin layer is carefully inspected for signs of cancer. This process continues until there are no signs of cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic.”

Then comes the hardest part: waiting.”
India described her thoughts at the time, saying: “You’re feeling good, you’re chatting, you’re scrolling on your phone, but everything depends on what’s happening in the other room.”
After the results were announced, India said she had received good news. Doctors told her she was “lucky” not to have cancer “for once.”
The surgery and positive results came just before the Thanksgiving holiday, which she was excited to celebrate with her loved ones.
“I love parties, friends around the table, loud laughter, happy chaos,” India, who split her time between the Cotswolds in England and Harbor Island in the Bahamas, wrote of her American vacation.

The cancer diagnosis in India is the latest to hit the royal family and its inner circle. Buckingham Palace announced in February 2024 that 77-year-old Charles was diagnosed with cancer and is currently receiving treatment.
The king’s specific type of cancer was not disclosed, but the royal family confirmed he did not have prostate cancer after undergoing surgery for benign prostatic hypertrophy in January 2024.
