Knicks Insider Reveals Possibility of Anthony Davis Joining New York

The future of Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis remains one of the biggest question marks in the NBA, and now a well-connected New York insider is adding fuel to the rumors.

The Mavericks are evaluating their long-term direction as AD continues to battle injuries, and SNY’s Ian Begley says the Knicks are preparing to keep a close eye on the situation and could make a move if Dallas opens the door.

Begley was asked if the Knicks would pursue a rim-protecting big man before the trade deadline. After laying out several logical options, he turned directly to Davis.

“This is obvious, but I’m sure the Knicks will at least reach out to Dallas if/when Anthony Davis becomes available,” Begley said. “You might scoff at the idea, but the Knicks want to win a championship this season. If Dallas offered Davis below market value, I’m sure the Knicks would at least consider the move. But once again, the obvious is stated. If/when they get Davis on the court, the Mavericks will get calls from nearly every team in the NBA.”

The Knicks have been aggressive in recent seasons, stockpiling assets and maintaining flexibility for superstar trades. When healthy, Davis remains one of the league’s best interior defenders and a championship-caliber player. But health has always been a key issue.

Mark Stein said Dallas is aware of the interest across the league and is not closing the door on discussions.

“League sources say the Mavericks still intend to pursue any trade interest in Davis over the next two-plus months, and the prospect of an actual trade will obviously depend on the quality of the offer,” Stein wrote. “Keep in mind that Davis has been healthy enough to play in only 14 of 48 regular season games since becoming a Maverick due to severe adductor and calf injuries.”
