La Sasso wins NCAA title, sends Ole Miss to the game

Carlsbad, California – Miss Ole Miss Michael La Sasso overcame a pair of double bogeys with a pair of birdies on his last nine Mondays, which put him in an even-numbered 72, won the NCAA men’s championship and helped the Rebels bring the Rebels into the championship game.
La Sasso finished the game with 11-shot 277, defeating Phicaksn Miachon of Texas A&M twice, making him the second time Miss Ole Golfer won the NCAA title.
The victory sent 21-year-old La Sasso to Oakmont for two weeks at the U.S. Open and headed to the Masters next April.
He was equally excited about Ole Miss, who won the eighth and last place in La Costa Resort over the next two days. The Rebels led by one shot at Florida State, which was a tough end for Luke Clanton’s college career.
Clanton, who had two runner-ups on the PGA Tour and earned the tour for the lower graders rankings through PGA Tour University, struggled with two bogeys. He missed his birdie chance in the last hole and ended with a 76 as the Seminoles were in 9th place.
La Sasso entered the final day with a two-shot lead and started 10th. He regained his lead on the two holes in the opening game, and then had trouble with the Twin Cypress on 15 and 17.
But he kept a clean card on the rest of the way, and Maichin also opened two holes. Miachon didn’t make another birdie and ended with a score of 72.
“I had a little rough spot in the middle of the round and being able to bounce back from it is something really special,” Lhasasuo said.
Clanton, the world’s number one amateur, will make his debut at the RCMP Open next week.
Arizona State is ranked No. 1 as defending champion Auburn and will face Ole Miss in the quarterfinals of the game on Tuesday. The semi-finals were Tuesday afternoon, followed by Wednesday’s championship game.
The other five teams are Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia. Six of the eight teams came from the Southeast Conference.
