La Sheriff seeks help finding a lost assault rifle

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating how assault rifles were lost from the trunk of a squad car in southern South Los Angeles and could potentially fall out
The Representatives first noted that deputies lost their foal M4 assault rifle in a small team of cars between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a statement issued by the Sheriff’s Department.
The weapon is stored in a “black, hard-shell storage box” in the vehicle’s trunk, and five magazines, each with 30 rounds of ammunition.
The Sheriff’s Department asked the public to help find the assault rifle and determined the route representing the trip on Saturday night, hoping to find the weapon.
Deputies walked about four miles northward, heading north along Normandy Avenue near the department’s South Los Angeles station, then heading west on the Empire Highway, Hawthorne Boulevard, and then heading west on 104th Street to Inglewood Avenue.
“After realizing that the rifle was missing, personnel from the South Los Angeles station immediately began searching the station parking lot and recovering the deputies’ travel route,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “Surveillance videos in the area are currently being reviewed and local law enforcement agencies have been notified.”
The department also said it was launching an investigation to determine whether the process and procedure was followed. The union representing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
