Late night host remembers Rob Reiner, denounces ‘hateful and despicable’ Trump

In light of the weekend’s tragedy, Kimmel said the United States needs “compassion and leadership,” but “we’re not getting that from our president because he has nothing to give.”
“Just when you think he can’t go any lower, he finds a way to do it,” Kimmel continued, referring to Trump’s remarks about the Lehners’ deaths.
Trump wrote in a social media post Monday morning, “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once extremely talented film director and comedy star, has died along with his wife, Michelle, after reportedly incurring the ire of others due to his massive, unrelenting, incurable illness, a form of the mentally paralyzing disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome (sometimes also known as TDS).”
“His extreme obsession with President Donald J. Trump is known to drive people crazy, and as the Trump administration exceeds all goals and expectations of greatness, his apparent bigotry reaches new heights, perhaps unprecedented as America’s golden age looms,” he added.

Turning his attention to Trump, Meyers said he was “concerned” the president would make some kind of negative comment about the deaths, “but this is worse than I thought.”
“What a great time it would be to have a leader with a moral compass,” Meyers said.
Meyers concluded by praising Rob, saying, “He’s a guy who sets an example. That’s valuable, and we have to do everything we can to not let setting an example become a lost art.”
Rob, 78, and Michelle, 68, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home on Sunday, December 14. The Los Angeles Police Department said the couple suffered stab wounds.
The couple’s 32-year-old son Nick was arrested on Monday and charged with murder in connection with the death.
