Latin musician, 22, killed in Northridge ambush-style shooting

A 22-year-old internet celebrity and Latin musician was killed in an ambush-style shooting in Northridge early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Maria de la Rosa was shot and killed when she opened fire on several people in a car parked on Bryant Street near Tampa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said witnesses reported seeing two men approaching the vehicle around 1:25 a.m. Saturday. De La Rosa was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

There is no further information on whether the suspect or anyone else in the vehicle was injured.

De la Rosa released her first song “No me llames” (“Don’t Call Me”) under the name DELAROSA in August. Her Instagram account has more than 40,000 followers, and her most recent post shows her in a recording studio with an electric guitar, titled “Ocupada cocinando en el Stu,” which translates to “busy cooking in the Stu.”[dio]”, alluding to more music to be released soon.

Many people expressed condolences for the young performer’s death in the comments, including music producer Jimmy Humilde and Los Gemelos de Sinaloa frontman Juan Moises, among others in the Latin music industry.

Music producer and engineer Times J Martinez wrote in a Spanish message that she is a young and talented musician.

“Me duele que alla sido con violencia,” he wrote, or “it’s heartbreaking that this happened through violence.”

Police said the motive for De La Rosa’s shooting was unclear and no arrests have been made yet. Anyone with information is asked to contact Valley Bureau Homicide Detectives at (818) 374-9550. You can call (800) 222-8477 or leave an anonymous tip on the Crime Stoppers website.
