Luis Garcia of Astros closes after elbow discomfort

Astronauts are correct Louis Garcia Since May 1, 2023, no pitching was made due to an elbow injury requiring surgery by Tommy John. He has been training in training camp this year, throwing 9 2/3 innings, but manager Joe Espada revealed this morning that Garcia has been completely shut down after recovering from elbow discomfort (via Houston Chronicle’s Matt Kawahara). He is scheduled to hold a bullpen meeting today, but will be evaluated by a team doctor.

This is not Garcia’s first setback, but perhaps more ominous than the last one. Last summer, the right-handed cast 2 rehabilitation bureaus in 2 1/3 of the rehabilitation bureaus before slowing down and shifting its focus to 2025. The Astronauts provide no specific details about the nature of the setbacks at the time (as typical; well known; well known, the Astronauts are vague about the health updates of players). It is unclear when they will provide more information about Garcia.

Track and Field Chandler Rome noted that Garcia resumed bats last October and had no issues throughout the offseason. The team believes he is ahead of the long-lost Righty Lance McCullers Jr. In their respective recovery, but today’s setbacks mark a sudden and significant difference from this idea.

Houston isn’t expecting Garcia to enter the opening day rotation, but he is believed to be a key deep choice early in the season. This is not the case. Astronauts still have a solid senior staff, Framber Valdez,,,,, Brown Hunter,,,,, Ronel Blanco And sophomore Spencer Arrighetti (A few months after the rookie, he performed well in the 2024 season). Haydn Wesniskiobtained from pups Kyle Tucker Trade was favored and became the fifth starter.

Regardless of his role, a healthy Garcia will be a welcome to the staff. The right-hander has never been considered a senior pitching prospect, but has made great achievements in his 2020 debut and has never faced any long-term struggles in the majors. (Garcia’s career is just 5.00 north of ERA.) His Astros have pitched 352 innings in total and recorded 3.61 ERAs, with a strong strikeout rate of 25.3% and a 7.8% walk rate. He started 28 games for Houston in 2021 and 2022, with more than 155 innings in each of those two seasons.

There is no rotation now when or when or whether there is an option to return to Houston. His setbacks marked a significant blow to their pitching depth. The longer McCullers made their debut earlier this week since the 2022 World Series. This marks McCullers’ first official game move since 22 years; he did not participate in spring training and did not conduct any minor league rehabilitation missions in 2023 or 2024. He suffered multiple flexor muscle injuries along the way, which led to the surgery in June 2023.

Astronauts currently have Garcia and McCulles, JP France (Shoulder) and Christian Javier (UCL) Recovery from the major surgery. Javier underwent surgery by Tommy John in June last year. France underwent surgery last July to repair a capsule tear on his shoulder. Deep starter Sean Doubin The whole spring was put on hold due to shoulder trouble.

Due to the heavy injury, the Astronauts had no other rotation candidates in the 40-man roster, and he even made a major league start. left handed Colton Gordon Yes Ryan Gusto On the 40s, it can all look like this season, but neither has tested the MLB opposition.

The non-warehouse options behind the 40-person group are also inexperienced. Right-handed Glenn Otto (169 2/3 MLB innings 5.62 ERA) has any NRI biggest league in Astros Camp. right Miguel Ullola22, then AJ BlubaughThe 24-year-old is the team’s highest-ranked pitching prospect. Ullola has only three innings in Triple-A. Blubaugh performed well in 124 three-innings last season, and the numbers were a key depth for 2025. Broadly speaking, the Astronauts are unstable and thin outside the top weapon cluster, which only exacerbates the problematic nature of Garcia’s latest setback.
