Man shoots brother, he suffocates older mother in Beverly Grove

Police said a man fatally shot and killed his brother after witnessing his brother choking his 80-year-old mother at his home in Beverly Grove.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the shooting at around 1:25 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of North Alfred Street.

According to LAPD official Norma Eisenman, the dispute began when a 61-year-old man used a baseball bat to damage windows and personal belongings in his mother’s home and threatened her.

The woman then called her 57-year-old son, and police said his mother was choked by his brother. The youngest son fired a warning with a shotgun, but the choking continued.

Police said the 57-year-old “feels he has no choice but to shoot his brother to save his mother’s life.”

According to Eisenman, the shooting was a “reasonable homicide, not a crime of murder” and the youngest son was not booked. Neither his or his brother’s name was released.

Eisenman said his mother’s head injury needed to be stitched.

“The Sagittarius saved the mother’s life,” Lapd Det. Samuel Marullo told KTLA. “He has no choice but to kill his brother. And suffocated when he was smashed at the age of 80? It will surely lead to her death.”
